Let the Smack Talking Begin: Smoke’s Poutinerie Releases Details of 7th Annual Smoke’s Poutinerie World Poutine Eating Championship

Insanely Entertaining, Internationally Acclaimed Competitive Eating Event to be held October 1st at Yonge-Dundas Square, the Heart of the City

TORONTO – The date has been set, the competitors are in intense training mode and the entertainment has been lined up. All that’s left is for the colossal consumption of the greatest food on this green earth to take center stage in a competition of monumental proportions.

Smoke’s Poutinerie, the “World’s Largest and Original Poutinerie,” today announced a number of details for its 7th annual Smoke’s Poutinerie World Poutine Eating Championship (WPEC). As the world’s largest poutine eating competition, WPEC is considered Canada’s undisputed eating event of the year and one of the globe’s premier displays of gastronomic gamesmanship.

All poutine-loving eyes will be glued to Downtown Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square on Saturday, October 1, 2016 to witness the weird, wild and wacky eating extravaganza.

Smoke, the iconic mastermind behind Smoke’s Poutinerie, has faxed exclusive invitations to both Major League Eaters (MLE) and amateur gorgers from all corners of the globe. Invited internationally-celebrated MLE superstars who regularly compete for the poutine eating crown include the world’s #1 and #2 ranked pros. WPEC stands to renew this fierce rivalry, as the world’s #2 ranked Matt “The Megatoad” Stonie, the reigning Smoke’s Poutinerie World Poutine Eating Championship champion who ate 22 pounds of poutine in 10 minutes, has the opportunity to defend his title against Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, currently ranked #1 in the world, who ate 20.5 pounds of poutine last year. Other amazing invitees include Badlands Booker, who is the donut, matzo ball and green pea-eating champion of the world; Yasir Salem, who is the former cannoli-eating champion of the world; and “Buffalo” Jim Reeves, the watermelon-eating champion of the world!

For the professional competition at WPEC, Smoke’s Poutinerie partners closely with MLE to run the event. MLE is the world body that oversees all professional eating contests. Incredibly, MLE-sanctioned eating contests generate more than a billion consumer impressions worldwide.

“Beyond insanity! It is the single greatest day of each and every year,” said Ryan Smolkin, founder and CEO (Chief Entertainment Officer) of Smoke’s Poutinerie. “WPEC rocks the world of all who come. Games, prizes, tunes, massive amounts…I mean massive amounts of fries, cheese curds and gravy. It’s FREE poutine for everyone and the pinnacle of competitive eating. Our pro eaters are absolutely unbelievable…it’s incredible what they can put down and pulverize. You have to be there to believe it. Don’t miss this!”

The release of the 7th annual WPEC date comes on the heels of another announcement that is near and dear to Smoke’s Poutinerie and its plaid nation. Smoke’s Poutinerie has partnered with Friends of We Care, a charity organization focused on sending children with disabilities to camp through the collaborative efforts of Canada’s foodservice and hospitality community. In support of Friends of We Care, WPEC will be holding its first-ever charity eating competition, with the proceeds raised helping ensure that countless children can enjoy their summers at camp creating unforgettable memories. For a chance to secure one of the 12 exclusive spots in the charity eat-off, interested WPEC eaters can sign up or donate now through September online at: http://friendsofwecare.org/events/poutine-eating-contest-smokes-poutinerie/. Friends, family and poutine lovers from all corners of the world can support the charity competition entrants by making pledges at the same site.

And, when it comes to musical entertainment, this year’s WPEC will be off the hizzy as Smoke’s Poutinerie hooks up partygoers, head bangers and air guitarists with exclusive performances from Destroyer – the hottest KISS tribute band in the world.
