Potbelly Sandwich Shop to Open First Location near Raleigh

The beloved shop will bring toasty warm sandwiches, signature shakes and live music to The Triangle

RALEIGH, N.C. – Potbelly Sandwich Shop announced today that it will bring its first location to Raleigh. The widely acclaimed neighborhood hangout is known for its signature sandwiches, hand-dipped milkshakes and live, local music. With an existing shop in Greensboro, this will be the first shop in the Raleigh-Durham-Cary-Chapel Hill area.

Potbelly shops have earned a reputation in communities across the United States for having delicious food, fun décor and fresh tunes. Tulshi Bhakar, the new shop’s owner, spent years living in Chicago where he enjoyed the original Potbelly Sandwich Shop on Lincoln Avenue.

“Wake County has been starving for a Potbelly,” said Bhakar. “I’m thrilled to share Potbelly’s mouthwatering sandwiches and shakes with the community. I can’t describe how excited people are when I tell them they finally get to experience their favorite sandwich right here in town.”

Bhakar will oversee the sandwich shop’s operations, including handling new staff recruitment and booking local musicians. The restaurant’s opening date, operation and delivery hours will be announced at a later date.

“We couldn’t be more pleased about Tulshi opening the first Potbelly in Raleigh,” said Rick Fossali, senior director of domestic franchising for Potbelly Sandwich Shop. “Potbelly is very careful about the owners and operators who franchise with us. It’s important that our brand is associated with people who have an entrepreneurial mindset and are connected to their communities. Tulshi is the perfect embodiment of those ideals.”

Potbelly Sandwich Shop first opened in Chicago in 1977, and now includes more than 350 shops across the United States. There are also 30-plus franchise shops in the United States and abroad.
